Clifton Gallery is delighted to showcase our latest selection of prints by celebrated Japanese artist Takashi Murakami.

“History is history; now is now. Forget about history, now is happy”

Celebrated for his bold, colourful works that fuse traditional Japanese aesthetics with contemporary pop culture. Best known for his “Superflat” concept, Murakami’s art draws on anime, manga, and commercial imagery to challenge traditional boundaries between fine art and accessibility.

His instantly recognisable visual language features smiling flowers, cartoon-like figures, and fantastical characters which combine playfulness with themes of desire and consumerism. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Murakami has become one of the most influential figures in contemporary art, with major exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Palace of Versailles, and wide-reaching collaborations that have reshaped the relationship between art, fashion, and popular culture.
