Tracey Emin: A Sleep At Home

Tracey Emin’s A Sleep at Home was released to coincide with her major retrospective at Tate Modern, which celebrates her ‘second life’, a progression from her past self to the present. In this print, Emin is seen asleep on her sofa beside one of her cats, capturing her newfound sense of calm, revealing the quieter, more reflective future for Emin.
The interior scene is central to the piece’s emotional power. Through Emin’s use of expressive lines and soft gestures, the room feels lived-in, showing a place of comfort and retreat. It feels almost dreamlike, as if the viewer were witnessing a private moment suspended in time.
