Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) was an American artist and a leading figure of the Pop Art movement, renowned for his bold, comic book–inspired imagery and distinctive use of Ben-Day dots. Drawing on media, advertising, and popular culture, Lichtenstein elevated the everyday visual language into art with irony, precision, and wit. His iconic works, featuring melodramatic characters and stylised compositions, challenged conventions of fine art and blurred the boundary between commercial and artistic expression. Lichtenstein remains one of the most influential and collectible artists in the world, with his 1964 painting ‘Nurse’ selling for over $95 million at Christie’s in 2015.
