Lee Ufan (b. 1936) is a Korean-born, Japan-based artist central to the Mono-ha (“School of Things”) movement. His paintings and sculptures highlight the meeting of natural and industrial materials, inviting viewers to experience space, time, and perception. His meditative brushstrokes trace an internal rhythm and merge Eastern aesthetics with minimalism. Influenced by Zen, Lee creates works that emphasise presence over representation and has been celebrated in major retrospectives at the Guggenheim Museum and Palace of Versailles. His art is also held in leading institutions worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
