Jeff Koons (b.1955) is an American contemporary artist known for his large-scale, highly polished sculptures, most famously his Balloon Dogs. Exploring the themes of consumerism, celebrity, childhood, and the intersection of high and low culture, Koons has become associated with the Neo-Pop movement, creating works that draw from mass-produced objects, advertising, and popular icons. Koons’ work often provokes debate for its use of kitsch and commercial imagery, challenging traditional ideas about taste, originality, and the role of the artist. Koons’ works are part of the permanent collections in major museums around the world, such as the MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Broad Museum in Los Angeles and Tate Modern in London. Koons has also held major solo exhibitions at the Palace of Versailles in France and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. In May 2019, Koons's sculpture ‘Rabbit’ (1986) sold at Christie's in New York for $91.1 million, setting a new auction record for the most expensive work by a living artist at that time.
