Invader is an anonymous French street artist, best known for his pixelated mosaics inspired by the 1980s video game Space Invaders. Emerging in the late 1990s, Invader began installing his signature tile artworks on public buildings around Paris and soon expanded his “invasions” to cities all over the world, including New York, Tokyo, London, and Hong Kong. Blending nostalgic video game imagery with the rebellious spirit of street art, placing these mosaic “Invaders" in unexpected locations turns the city itself into a playable game board, challenging ideas of public versus private space. His art reflects a fascination with technology and pop culture and the way we interact with both physical and digital environments. Whilst most remain on the street, some of Invader’s mosaics are housed in private collections and major museums and galleries around the globe, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art in Brussels and Musée en Herbe in Paris.
